The Art Box Gallery recently celebrated the grand opening of their new Cole Bay location on Welfare Road across from the Simpson Bay Yacht Club. Owner Zdenka Kiric is a long time island resident and formidable artist in her own right. Now she has created a platform to present the works of St. Maarten's leading artists. Her gallery demonstrates that the island of St. Maarten is an actual destination for lovers of art.

If you are interested in the works of greats such as Antoine Chapon, Sir Roland Richardson, Francis Eck or April Hankins, please visit The Art Box Gallery to see an impressive selection of pieces on display.

Sometimes it feels as if life on our island is following the rhythm of significant storms: Zdenka arrived in 1995 on a tiny sailboat, with no money, but some tools and 30 pounds of wire. Before she could set up shop, Hurricane Luis hit the island, and she lost her boat. The tools and wire were saved and St. Maarten's visitors during that time will remember a cheerful artist who sat outside Holland House, knocking out beautifully intricate bicycles and motorbikes made from a single length of anodized aluminum wire.

Fast forward 22 years: Only months after Hurricane Irma forced the entire island to reboot its civil life, Zdenka opened the new location for her gallery in a prime location in the Simpson Bay/Cole Bay area. The previous store at Bobby's Marina Village in Philipsburg, usually catering to cruise ship visitors, has been closed since Hurricane Irma, but Zdenka considers to reopen soon again.
