Who remembers the second sequel to the Sandra Bullock 'Speed' movies?
Speed II was shot in St. Martin. The final scene showed a cruise ship crashing into the town of Marigot. The original set was mightily impressive, with a fake town build over water. The bow of the ship ended close to where you find today Bistrot de la Mer and Bruno's Place.

On Wednesday, the real thing happened in Simpson Bay - thankfully on a much smaller scale and with nobody being injured.

The 77-meter mega yacht GO got out of control and crashed twice into the dock of the St. Maarten Yacht Club, doing a great job in destroying the structure. The ship itself got away with a nasty scratch on its aluminum hull.

A word about the Yacht Club and the bar-restaurant right at the bridge: after St. Maarten's incredible airport runway, this might be an equal attraction. You can zip a cocktail and simultaneously watch the world's most expensive yachts squeeze through the tight channel. This is a Caribbean bucket-list experience.
